'Hate has no places in our communities'- Carlow County Council's message on hate crime
A hate crime is a criminal offense motivated by bias against a person's race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, or other characteristics.
Carlow County Council has sent a message via social media to the people of Carlow to stand up against hate crime and report an incident if they witness or experience it.
The post said: "Hate has no places in our communities.
"A hate crime isn’t just an attack on one person—it’s an attack on an entire community. It undermines the inclusive Carlow we’re working to build.
"Every act of hate chips away at the safety and dignity every person deserves. Silence helps hate grow. But speaking up stops it.

"What we do matters: Call out prejudice when you see it. Support those targeted. Report hate incidents—your voice can protect someone else.
"Choose solidarity over silence. Carlow is stronger when everyone feels safe, valued, and respected.
"Let’s stand together, speak together, and act together".
Contact An Garda Siochana if you experience or witness a hate crime.
