Locals in Carlow furious with business 'taking advantage' of them by hiking fuel prices

Locals in Carlow have expressed their frustration at a business "taking advantage" of them by hiking fuel prices.

In a post on the Facebook page, 'All About Carlow,' a number of people commented on a post by one man who highlighted that Circle K on the Tullow Road has "banged their fuel prices up."

"We pay enough in this country without businesses taking advantage of customers," he added.

Others commented that the recent war in the Middle East should have no impact on prices as there should be a supply of fuel already here that was bought at lower prices.

"Wholesalers have prepaid and bought oil and kerosene well before the war broke out 5 days ago," one person said.

The price hike comes following the Minister for Enterprise, Peter Burke, writing to the Chair of the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission to seek a review of the retail energy market.

"We need support now. The Government yesterday claimed there’s no reason for fuel to be increasing in Ireland," Ger Hyland, President of the Irish Road Haulage Association, said.

The Association has been calling on the government to cut fuel taxes, while also accusing companies of inflating prices.
