Meet Geraldine, Madeline and Tegan; the first women to join Carlow fire stations

These Carlow women are each the first female firefighters to work at their station and are great ambassador's to promote the role of women in the fire service

Meet Geraldine, Madeline and Tegan; the first women to join Carlow fire stations
For international Women's day Carlow County fire and rescue service gave a special shout out to some of the women working in the fire departments.
They said on Facebook: "we would like to acknowledge the Women of Carlow County Fire & Rescue Service who play an important and equal role within our service.
"HQ Staff: Mary and Anna, who ensure the important day to day HQ administration is completed for all sections of our service delivery including Operations, Fire Prevention & Community Fire Safety, Building Control and Major Emergency Management.
"Mary is also a trained Information Manager within the framework for Major Emergency Management ready to respond to manage the information within the On Site Coordination Centre and assist the On Site Controller of Operations at a Major Emergency.
"And for our Operational Firefighting Staff who are fully trained and carry out the very same roles as their other station colleagues:
CCFRS's first female firefighter, Geraldine who was the first female firefighter to join our Hacketstown Brigade. Geraldine also competed at the Women in the Fire Service Workshop & Training International Event in the UK in 2025.
Madeline, the first female firefighter to join our Bagenalstown Brigade and Teegan, the first female firefighter to join our Tullow Brigade.
"We are very proud of all our staff as we endeavour to develop a modern day workforce to serve our modern day communities ensuring equality, diversion and inclusion for all.
"Our female staff are great ambassador's to promote the role of women in the fire service for females considering a career in the Fire & Rescue Services and for future recruitment competitions".
