Carlow shelter plea as dog who 'never gets a home offer' there since Christmas

The Carlow/Kilkenny Dog Shelter has made an online plea for adopters as a dog who "never gets a home offer" has been there since before Christmas.

Sammy arrived at the kennel three days before Christmas in a "pitiful" and "manlnourished" state.

He had a number of conditions such as worms, sores, and an eye infection, yet always acted as the "most affectionate boy," according to the post on Facebook.

Once he started to settle into the shelter, he started to gain weight, his skin improved, and he made lots of new friends.

"He was ready for his new home," the post said.

However, Sammy is yet to find his forever home, even after "briefly" spending time in one house.

"While there, it was suspected he was having seizures and was put on medication, then returned," the post explained.

Sammy was taken off the medication, and the staff at the shelter have never seen him have a seizure.

They now feel they are in a situation where the future of Sammy is uncertain.

"Ideally, we would love if a rescue had a space in a foster home. We know everyone is under pressure, but if anyone can help us out, we would be so grateful," the post said.

"Sammy is a really great dog who has had a bad start in life but deserves the best future," it concluded.
