A Carlow/Kilkenny TD has said "arrogance and inaction will continue" after voting that she has no confidence in Mícheál Martin and the Irish government.

Natasha Newsome Drennan was the only one of five TDs across the two counties who went against the government in the recent Dáil vote.

In a post on Facebook during the week, she described the government as "unwilling to act and unable to listen."

She outlined how TD - Teachta Dála - means 'Messenger of the People,' but that she was the only TD to have acted true to that name and responsibility.

"Others put self-preservation before the people... The Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and Independent coalition will limp on," Newsome Drennan said.

"The arrogance and inaction will continue, while the crises in cost-of-living, housing, healthcare, education and elsewhere will continue to deepen," she added.

The confidence motion was brought to the government by Sinn Féin following the fuel protests.

The Government won the Dáil confidence vote by 92 votes to 78 on Tuesday.

Because of how the fuel protests and crisis were handled, Junior Minister Michael Healy-Rae said the people of Ireland had been "let down" and decided to resign.

He voted against the government in the confidence vote and decided to leave the same day.

He said that the sight of grown men crying over the cost of fuel left him with no choice but to resign.
