Several Carlow streets are to benefit from 'much brighter light' which can be useful where CCTV cameras are in operation.
In a statement, Cllr Will Paton said: "I am delighted to learn that Carlow County Council in conjunction with the Three Counties Energy Agency Limited (3CEA) has been successful in attracting funding from Sustainable Energy Agency Ireland to enable the Council to replace existing 55 watt SOX public lights with lower energy LED lights."
He added: "The programme will be rolled out across County Carlow over the coming months commencing with the Pollerton Road area of Carlow Town (Laurel Park/Burrindale/Brooklawns/Grange Court/Mountain View/The Downs/Sandhills/Dolmen Gardens/Dolmen Heights/Sherwood/Beechwood Park).
"Apart from huge energy cost savings, the LED lights provide a much brighter light source and this is very useful where CCTV cameras are in operation.
"Further details will be announced at the September meeting of Carlow County Council."
