Carlow/Kilkenny TD Kathleen Funchion asked the Minister for Education and Skills the number of post-primary schools participating in the book rental scheme by county.
In a written response, Minister Richard Bruton said: "My Department provides funding to schools to support the operation of school book rental schemes."
"The most recent figures available indicate that 95% of primary schools and 68% of post-primary schools operate a book rental scheme," he added.
Minister Bruton provided a breakdown of the number of primary and post-primary schools per county that provide a School Book Rental Scheme based on the most recent figures available.
The data revealed that 44 Carlow primary schools have a scheme and ten Carlow secondary schools have a book rental scheme.
