Someone in Waterford woke up an instant millionaire on Saturday after winning a cool one million euros on Friday night’s ‘Ireland Only Raffle’ EuroMillions draw.

And to add to the excitement Saturday’s Lotto Jackpot hits a sizzling €8 million – one of the biggest Lotto jackpots of the year.

News of the big EuroMillions raffle win will be a perfect “tonic” for the lucky South East winner who bought their golden EuroMillions ticket in the shop in University Hospital Waterford in the city.

The National Lottery is now urging all Waterford EuroMillions players to check their tickets to see if they join the exclusive EuroMillions millionaire club.

The golden ticket for the EuroMillions guaranteed €1 million prize in Ireland was sold at the Aramark Shop in University Hospital Waterford and this morning staff and patients were buzzing with excitement.

A delighted shop manager, Patrick Casey, said today: “This is unbelievable news! There is massive excitement in the hospital today at the prospect of a staff member, a visitor or even a patient being the lucky winner of this huge amount of money.

“We are a very busy shop with visitors, patients and staff. There are several syndicates amongst the staf  so we are hoping it is somebody connected with the hospital. This is our first big EuroMillions win so we are over the moon.“

This the second big EuroMillions win for an Aramark shop this year. The EuroMillions Plus prize of €500,000 was won by an 18-person syndicate of administration staff from Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, Co Galway in February. The bought their ticket in the Aramark Oasis shop in the hospital.

This was the fourth EuroMillions Draw  ‘Ireland Only Raffle’ in 2018 in which one Irish player was guaranteed to win €1 million. Previous winners in 2018 have come from Dublin, Waterford and Galway.

As there was no winner of the EuroMillions jackpot of almost €70m and the jackpot now rolls to a mega  €75m for next Tuesday. Since it started in 2004 more than €1 Billion has been won by Irish players on EuroMillions.

Meanwhile Lotto fever is gripping Ireland as the jackpot for tonight’s draw is set to exceed €8 million. The Lotto jackpot has been rolling since June 20th and is now heading towards one of the highest jackpots of the year, a National Lottery spokesperson said today.
