Carlow Gardaí have urged Leaving Cert students heading out to celebrate results to "be conscious of friends disappointed with results".

They advised students to have a plan in place and to be aware of their surroundings and have a designated buddy.

In a statement on the Carlow/Kilkenny Garda Facebook page, they said: "Best of luck to all receiving Leaving Cert results. If you're heading out later, have a plan in place, be aware of your surroundings and your phone and property, look out for each other, have a designated buddy!

"Be conscious of friends disappointed with results. Remember you must be over 18 to legally obtain alcohol in pubs/night clubs. Mind each other."
