Angie Ray - mother of Carlow Rose Shauna Ray Lacey - says she is immensely proud of her daughter who has a "great message for the people of Ireland".

Speaking to Carlow Live, Angie said: "I just want to say firstly how proud I am of Shauna. She has been going non-stop since she's been down here in Tralee.

'Not only is she working so hard, but she's enjoying the experience. I believe our Carlow Rose is for the people."

Shauna - mother to her daughter Emmy - has garnered a lot of attention for speaking about being a mother and a breastfeeding advocate.

Angie added: "She is warm, caring and the most lovely person. She was born with that something special. Offically the first mother in the Rose of Tralee.

"She is not only experiencing personal growth, but has a great message for the people of Ireland. Needless to say, I'm loving this experience."

The "Mother Rose" made it into the last 32 and she will take to the stage in Tralee tonight with the second cohort of Roses on stage tomorrow (Tuesday) night.
