Carlow Community Policing Unit were "delighted to attend" Eid al-Adha prayers and celebrations in Carlow on Tuesday morning.

In post on the Carlow/Kilkenny Garda Facebook page, they posted two pictures from the event and added:"Eid Mubarak to all!"

Eid al-Adha also called the "Festival of Sacrifice", is the second of two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year and considered the holier of the two.

It commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to Allah.

Eid Mubarak is a Muslim greeting reserved for use on the festivals of Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr. Eid means "celebration", and Mubarak means "blessed".
