A supernatural thriller set and inspired by Carlow - which boasts two Game of Thrones stars - made its way on to Netflix last week.

The Lodgers landed on Netflix last Thursday, and the entire thing is set in Carlow, although it's filmed in one of Ireland's most haunted houses, Loftus Hall in Wexford.

The film is set in the 1920s sees Anglo Irish twins Rachel and Edward share a strange existence in their crumbling family estate.

Each night, the property becomes the domain of a sinister presence (The Lodgers) which enforces three rules upon the twins: they must be in bed by midnight; they may not permit an outsider past the threshold; if one attempts to escape, the life of the other is placed in jeopardy.

If that hasn't got you hooked already, it also stars two actors you may know from Game of Thrones. David Bradley, who plays Walder Frey (of Red Wedding fame) and Eugene Simon (Lancel Lannister) star in the movie.

When troubled war veteran Sean returns to the nearby village, he is immediately drawn to the mysterious Rachel, who in turn begins to break the rules set out by The Lodgers.

The consequences pull Rachel into a deadly confrontation with her brother - and with the curse that haunts them.

Screenwriter and artist, David Turpin, who penned the script for the thriller, has revealed the inspiration behind the setting of the movie was Borris House.

Speaking to Carlow Live, Paulstown native David, said: "The script was written to be set in Carlow. Borris House was one of the inspirations (just the estate - not the people there, of course!). The locations where we eventually shot were in Wexford.

"The old 'big houses' in Carlow are still inhabited - so they wouldn't have worked for shooting.

"Basically, the story has always been set in Carlow in my mind. But we shot at the best locations we could find, irrespective of where they were.

"I came to Carlow to make my first record when I was 18, and it always stayed with me. Then, I was living in Paulstown when I wrote the shooting script, so I was drawing on what I saw around me and near me, really.

"Plus Carlow has a lot of history around the War of Independence, etc., which is when the story is set.

"And finally, my ball and chain (Gar Cox, who's a folk singer from Bagenalstown) is from Carlow, so that made research easy."

Cast: Bill Milner (X-Men: First Class, Locke) Charlotte Vega (The Misfits Club, Another Me) David Bradley (Captain America: The First Avenger, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones) Eugene Simon (Game of Thrones, Ben Hur) Moe Dunford (Vikings, Patrick's Day) Director Brian O'Malley (Let Us Prey) Writer David Turpin (The Indecents).

The film won the Best VFX category at the IFTA awards earlier this year.
