Met Eireann weather forecast for the week
Met Éireann has addressed concerns an Atlantic hurricane is tracking towards Ireland in their latest online forecast.
Latest weather models suggest Hurricane Helene is tracking towards Ireland, scheduled to be downgraded and land on Irish shores on Monday next week.
The Midland Weather Channel has already issued a warning in relation to the weather system, which is taking a similar track to that of Ophelia late last year.
Met Éireann has said, "there is a lot of uncertainty in the details for early next week but indications are for very disturbed weather."
"Mild, very humid conditions are expected to develop during Monday, with rain moving up from the south in freshening southerly winds. There is a risk of some extremely windy conditions with heavy rainfall on Monday night or Tuesday but there is a large degree of uncertainty in details at present," the national forecaster added.
Met Éireann has said that between now and then, while there will be some bright spells on Thursday and Friday, the forecast is for considerably unsettled weather with temperatures overnight tumbling below 10 degrees.
