Councillors have called for greater enforcement across Carlow County Council's social housing stock after they were contacted by people "haunted by people making their life a misery".

The matter came up at this month's meeting of the Council and Cllr Michael Doran said the Council were "seen as a soft touch" by tenants who "think they can do what they like" in local authority houses.

"There is a total lack of enforcement. These people walk all over the community. People start to move out and the place turns into a bit of a ghetto," he told the meeting.

Cllr Will Paton also addressed the issue and said: "One galloping gobshite can make life miserable for people."

He added that the Council needed to ensure they weren't putting "one of these yo-yos in a housing estate".
