Shauna on stage at the Rose of Tralee

Carlow Rose Shauna Ray Lacey has been nominated for a 30 under 30 award in the Social Contribution and Activism category at the prestigious U Magazine showcase in October.

The 'Mother Rose' Shauna took to the stage at the Dome in Tralee earlier this year and won the support of the nation as she opened up about her parents’ struggle with heroin addiction and the impact it had on her life.

The 24-year-old also received praise - along with her mother Angie - for an interview on the Late Late Show in recent weeks.

The hosts for the 30 under 30 awards will be Aisling O'Toole and James Kavanagh at the event in Dublin's Iveagh Garden Hotel.

Other categories include a Tech and Innovation shortlist while the Arts and Entertainment category sees Alison Spittle and Doireann Garrihy among those nominated.

Other nominated for awards include the Irish women's 4x100m relay team which boasts Carlow's own Molly Scott, the women's senior international hockey squad and Anna Geary.
