The existing bridge in Tullow is incredibly busy with traffic
The contract for the construction of the Tullow footbridge will be signed in the coming days with works to begin soon after, Carlow County Council have confirmed.
Cllr Will Paton raised the matter a recent meeting of the local authority seeking a definite timeline for the footbridge on the N81 in Tullow.
The Council said there is "no definite start date" but the contract signing is on October 16 and the project wil progress "very quikly after that".
Cllr John Pender welcomed the works progressing but said the "last thing we want is considerable disruption in the lead up to Christmas" and appealed for there to be minimal impact on businesses.
The Council shared the sentiments of Cllr Pender and added that the project includes extensive off-site fabrication which will serve to minimise time on site and disruption in the area.
The footbridge will provide a separate structure but it will be tied into the existing granite bridge.
