Shauntelle is coming home on October 18
A young Carlow woman who was recently given the all clear from cancer after around 18 months of intensive treatments in the US is looking forward to coming home next week after over 600 days across the water.
Shauntelle 'Shan' Tynan from Graiguecullen in Carlow was getting treatment in the US for a rare form of cancer after people donated over €600,000 last year to fund her journey to the US facility.
Shan Tynan officially rang the bell in recent weeks at the Texas Children’s Hospital to signify that she is now cancer free.
She's now looking forward to coming home and in a video on Facebook in recent days, Shan said: "We're ready mentally (for home). We're going to be done by Saturday but then we have to go to a hotel cause all of our stuff is going to be gone."
Shan says she is "ready for a bit of cold" in Ireland and is having a homecoming party on October 20 in The Tower at 8.30pm.
In a post on Facebook on Thursday, Team Shan said: "We are so, so close to the end and this time next week will be waking up in our own home all together as a family for the first time in 602 days!
"What a journey it’s been. It’s been a rollercoaster like no other but against all odds we are taking Shan home in better health than we could ever have envisaged."
