Free parking arrangements at Plás na Saoirse (Hadden's) Car Park were "abused by some motorists" and ceased on Saturday, October 20 when parking charges returned to normal.

The temporary parking arrangements were put in place in order to support the town centre retailers during the Irish Water works on Upper Tullow Street.

Feedback from the retailers indicated that the arrangements were broadly welcomed.

Carlow County Council have said however that there were also reports that the temporary arrangements "were abused by some motorists".

The temporary free parking arrangements ceased at close of business on Saturday, October 20.

The previously introduced 30 minute free on-street parking will continue as heretofore.

In the coming weeks, consideration will be given, as in previous years, to introducing Christmas car parking arrangements for the general town centre area.
