Almost 600 bags of rubbish were filled from a litter pick across three roads in Carlow between July and October of this year.

Carlow County Council revealed the figures from the clean-ups on the Wexford Road N80 from the motorway interchange at Junction 5 to the Wexford Road Roundabout.

The other routes were the Kilkenny Road R448 from Milford Cross to Munnelly's Garage and the Dublin Road R448 from the Deerpark Road roundabout to the motorway interchange Junction 4.

The Council collected 586 bags of rubbish from the litter picks from July 13 to October 15 - a period of three months.

Each route is now picked for one day every three weeks.
