Tributes have been paid to "gentleman and gifted teacher" Robert Arthur Keppel who has been laid to rest. 

Mr Keppel - from "The Limit", Moone, Kildare/Carlow - died unexpectedly at his home and was beloved husband of Kathleen and much loved father of Keith, Yvonne, Giles and Sheena.

Sadly missed by his loving wife, sons, daughters, brother Desmond, sister Margaret, son-in-law David, daughters-in-law Margaret and Wendy, grandchildren David, Aimeé, Kate, Dylan, Elva and Luke, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and many friends.

He was laid to rest at St Mullin's Church, Timolin on Monday afternoon. 

Cllr Will Paton said: "I always found him to be a gentleman, a brilliant and gifted teacher by all accounts and dedicated boatman who loved the River Barrow. Arthur will be missed by his family, friends and everyone who knew him."

Others paid tribute to the man on social media. 

One past student of his, said: "A great teacher, I liked him a lot he taught me back in the early 60s, sad parting."

Another added: "A great teacher and a gentleman. He helped so many lads get jobs after leaving school down through the years."
