Carlow Men's Sheds has received over €7,000 in funding for toilets, CCTV and other expenditure for 2018.
Minutes from a meeting of the Carlow Local Community Development Committee in September reveal that members were circulated with details of the applications and amounts recommended in respect of the Community Enhancement Programme 2018 (Men’s Shed).
Carlow was allocated €7,246 in respect of five Men’s Sheds. There are four Men’s Sheds in Carlow, out of which three applied.
Due to this fact, the recommended €1,449 for each Men’s Shed’s was increased to ensure that all the funding was allocated.
All applications for funding under this programme were reviewed and accessed to ensure complementarity with County Carlow 2021 Local Economic & Community Plan (LECP) 2016-2021.
Carlow Men’s Shed was given €3,796 for the re-design and engineering modification of first floor metal access stairs as well as
fitting an alarm system with CCTV real time monitoring.
Tullow Men’s Shed was granted 1,700 for the purpose of pollytunnell.
Lastly, Leighlin Parish Men’s Shed received €1,750 to fit out and install a toilet with a hand basin and to set up a tea room - both of which are vital in order to attract members to their shed, they said.
