Christmas lights to be turned on November 24 in Carlow to start a month of festive fun

The official kick off for the festive season 2018 will take place on November 24 when the official festive family programme will start with turning on the lights in Carlow Town being turned on at 5pm at the Liberty Tree, Potato Market, Carlow.

In Carlow Town the Mayor will be doing the honours – while Santa himself is also set to make a special appearance. The lights kick off a month of County Carlow – Festive Family across the County with over 100 events with local incentives such as free parking to encourage people to shop local and support County Carlow this Christmas.

In the build-up to the lights will be the annual Eist Candlelight Walk of Hope which commences at 4.30pm from Bank of Ireland, Shamrock Plaza, Carlow which is a community led event.

Speaking about the importance of the festive season, Ken Murnane, Mayor of the Municipal District of Carlow said: "Christmas is all about family and we in Carlow County Council are delighted to play our part in support of this important time of year."

The Mayor added: "I’d like to acknowledge everybody who plays their part in creating the overall Christmas programme including community groups, County Carlow Chamber, and the business community and hope that hundreds of families will come out and celebrate the turning on of Carlow Town’s Christmas lights."
