A councillor has appealed for capital funding to resurface "probably the most used road in Carlow".
Cllr Michael Doran has said the R448 (previously the N9) is - after the motorway - "probably the most used road in the county" and there needs to be plans in place to do some resurfacing works on the road.
"If the Municipal District (of Bagenalstown) did it, all our roads budget would be gone," he added.
Director of Services at the Council, Dan McInerney, has said that the R448 will require a "large amount of money" for resurfacing works and would be out of the scope of the local authority's multi-annual budget for road works.
He said the Council would look into getting a grant from the Department of Transport for the upgrade.
