A proposal for the amalgamation of Carlow and Kilkenny Library Services has been scrapped, accoring to Acting County Librarian in Carlow, John Shortall.

The matter came up at this month's meeting of Carlow County Council when Cllr Fintan Phelan raised his concerns over the proposal and the impact it might have on Carlow services.

Mr Shortall however said that the idea of "shared services, it's gone".

"We're going to work together (with Kilkenny's Library Services) in a limited capacity," he added.

The news was welcomed by Cllr Phelan.
