Carlow County Council offices on the Athy Road
Over €3m has been paid out by Carlow County Council's insurers since 2014 for "slips, trips and falls" in claims settlements, a Freedom of Information request by Carlow Live has revealed.
An FOI request by this website sought the amounts paid in compensation by Carlow County Council's insurers from Quarter 1 of 2014 to Quarter 3 of 2018 and to specify in the analysis the causes for the pay outs.
The figures provided by the local authority showed that insurance claim settlements from 2014 to September 2018 saw Irish Public Bodies, Carlow County Council's insurers, finalise €3,526,749 in claims.
A sum of €3,086,150 of this amount related to "Public Liability" which includes "personal accident, slip/trip, ground defects or equipment defects".
Public Liability insurance claims finalised were at €136,967 for the first nine months of this year, while in previous years the pay outs were: €751,058 (2017); €537,673 (2016); €1,322,735 (2015) and €337,717 (2014).
Other categories for amounts paid out over the four years related to "Motor Policy" - which had €51,659 worth of claims finalised since 2014 - and "Employers Liability" which had €388,940 worth of claims finalised.
