Carlow people encouraged to shop local

A Carlow councillor has urged people to "shop local" this Christmas due to the threat of online shopping to local businesses.

Cllr Michael Doran said that a huge amount of "internet trade" goes out of the county and the country.

Speaking at this month's meeting of Bagenalstown Municipal District meeting, he encouraged people to "buy Irish and shop local" which was supported by all members.

He added: "Support local businesses over the Christmas."
