A vote to merge Bagenalstown Credit Union with St Canice's Kilkenny has been postponed for "health and safety reasons".

Bagenalstown Credit Union arranged their AGM on Wednesday night but "an unprecedented number of members arrived, more than double the capacity of the room" and for health and safety reasons they were forced to defer the meeting to a later date and probably at a larger venue.

Members were due to vote on St Canice’s Kilkenny Credit Union’s proposed merger with Bagenalstown at the AGM.

Members of St Canice’s voted overwhelmingly in favour of the move earlier this week but no new date or venue has been fixed as yet for the Bagenalstown vote.

Members will be notified when arrangements have been made.
