Revealed: Almost 170 social houses will be ready to move into in Carlow this year

Almost 170 social houses are to be ready for use in Carlow before the end of this year, according to local authority chief executive, Kathleen Holohan. 

A total of 85 social houses were completed in the Dolmen County last year – this broke down into 46 by the Council and 39 by Approved Housing Bodies.

The largest grouping of those homes saw sixteen social houses built in Ard na Greine, Tullow and 29 in Brownshill by Approved Housing Body, Tuath.

Meanwhile, there were five Part 5 houses were provided in Castle Oaks. 

However, the number of social housing units that are due to be finished by the end of 2019 is significantly higher with 167 expected to be ready for families to move into.

This year's delivery date will see 93 of the homes built by Approved Housing Bodies: 26 are under construction on Sleaty Street, six elsewhere in Carlow Town, 39 in Brownshill, and 22 in Ballon.

The remaining 74 are being constructed by the Council and include: 63 in the Laurels in Carlow Town which expected by Q2 of this year, two in Dereen Heights, four each in Myshall and Rathnapish, and then one in Kildavin.
