Investigations ongoing to have two suspects in Carlow robbery returned to this jurisdiction

Investigations are ongoing after a robbery on Potato Market in Carlow Town where two men threatened staff with a baseball bat.

The incident happened at 4.05pm on February 1 when two males entered a store and threatened staff. The culprits stole a mobile phone, cash and a laptop before making their escape in an English registered car. 

Gardaí were immediately alerted to the incident and they quickly established the identity of the car and they contacted all airports and ports as the car was registered to a UK address.

Enquiries established that the car was due to travel back via ferry to the UK the night of of February 1 and the Police Service of Northern Ireland were contacted and stopped the vehicle near Larne. 

The PSNI searched the car and found property which was stolen during the robbery in Carlow Town. 

Both suspects were detained by the PSNI and questioned in relation to the incident. 

Investigations are ongoing to have the two suspects returned to this jurisdiction to face the charges of robbery.
