Emergency works are to be carried out by Carlow County Council after a hole appeared on Regent Street in Bagenalstown on Sunday evening.

Cllr Andy Gladney highlighted the issue and contacted the Council who made an emergency call out and he says they had begun closing off the road on Sunday evening.

Cllr Gladney said: "It seems to be subsiding, there's some kind of a tunnel, if you walked in your leg would be broken, there's  a crew closing off the road.

"There's a big hole under the road, it's fairly deep, three and half foot or four foot deep. It was luck that nobody was injured."
