Plans for social houses in Borris are to be put out to public consultation in the coming months, Carlow County Council have confirmed.

Members at Bagenalstown Municipal District were given an update at this month's meeting by Director of Services, Michael Brennan.

Cllr Willie Quinn previously excoriated the local authority for its social housing provision in south Carlow.

Mr Brennan previosuly said he intended to bring Part 8 proposals for social housing in Borris before members "as soon as possible" and that a "mapping exercise" was underway.

Cllr Quinn said: "I'm an elected representative for the area. That's not good enough. It's going on since last April. There are a shortage of houses and it's very important we get a fair share.

""We would want to be ready to go with them this year."

Now, it has been revealed that two units on Main Street, Borris and nine proposed units on Pound Lane are being prepared for the commencement of Part VIII procedures.

Members will be voting on the proposals in March on whether or not to put the plans out to public consultation.
