Carlow County Council offices on the Athy Road
Several social housing applicants in Carlow have been on the waiting list for over ten years, Carlow Live can reveal.
In a Freedom of Information request to Carlow County Council, Carlow Live sought details on the five longest applicants on the social housing waiting list in the county and how long they have been on the list for.
The local authority provided information that showed one applicant is 4,473 days (just over 12 years) on the local authority's social housing list.
The second longest applicant on the list is on it 4,125 days (11 years), the third 4,049 days (11 years), the fourth 4,043 days (11 years) and the fifth is on the waiting list 4,042 days (11 years).
Meanwhile, the figures also revealed that the total number of occupied social houses in the county stands at 1,710 with seven vacant social houses currently.
When asked about the number of social houses offered to applicants in 2016, 2017 and in 2018 that were refused and the reason given for refusal, the Council said: "This information is confidential to the individuals concerned."
