A great event

The Irish Dragon Boat Association are holding the Dragon Run 10km in Carlow Town on Sunday, March 24.

This marathon pursuit race will see numerous dragonboats, kayaks and 01s battle it out on the River Barrow over the 4 x 2.5km course.

The event will see a mass start for the 01s and kayaks followed by interval starts for each of the dragon boats. All boats will start at the Jimmy Murnane footbridge and paddle up towards the lock.

They will have to do a sharp turn just before the island and head back down river around the island opposite the park and repeat the course a second time finishing at the footbridge.

The event is designed to test the endurance skills of the paddlers as well as testing the ability of the dragon boat helms around the tight turns.

The event kicks off at 12 noon sharp.

Spectators will enjoy a great view of the event from the footbridge as well as a brisk walk along the scenic Barrow Track.
