"There's hope for 35% of people on the housing list," a councillor has praised the efforts of Carlow County Council to build houses for social housing applicants.
Cllr Will Paton made the remarks at this month's meeting of the local authority and he said that "there are 388 houses being built with plans for another 70 homes".
"With 1,301 people on the social housing list, there's hope for 35% of people on the housing list. The Council and Approved Housing Bodies' building programme is the only circus in town," he said.
"There's not much happening in the private sector," he added.
