A second request for an "Extension of Duration" to planning permission - due to expire on May 3 of this year -  for 20 houses in Nurney has been refused by Carlow County Council.

The planning permission was first granted in 2009 for the development of 29 two-storey dwellings with treatment plant/reed bed system and all associated site works.

The proposal at Leinster Hills Golf Club, Graiguealug, Nurney was granted an extension of duration back in 2014 with an expiry date on the permission back then set at May 3, 2019.

However the applicants, John McDonald and Joe Nolan, sought a second "Extension of Duration" on January 22 of this year with the number of dwellings proposed for the site reduced to 20.

But the local authority recently refused the request and the planning permission will now expire on May 3.
