This year's Ali Byrne Memorial Run is being held for Carlow's Brandon Bolger, it has been announced.

Brandon was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma  – a rare disease affecting bone or soft tissue – last March.

The Ali Byrne Memorial bike run was set up in 2010 to raise money for children in need of a little lift life.

In a post on Facebook, organisers said; "Some of you, especially those from Carlow, may already know Brandon's story. We are honoured and privileged to ride out for Brandon on this, our tenth annual run!

"Let's give this the usual Ali Byrne effort and then let's give it an extra lash! Roll on May! This is going to be epic... we have a huge amount of lads and ladies from Wicklow, Wexford, Dublin, Sligo, Kildare, Laois, Offaly, Kilkenny and of course Carlow!

"We have never had a bigger commitment from the biking community. So much so, that for the first time ever, we have bikers pitching tents in order to enjoy the day in Farrells to the fullest!

"We are just so excited and can't wait for May! Keep an eye on the page for further details."
