A water supply disruption to residents in Carlow over the weekend was "caused by a power outage", Irish Water have said.

In a statement to Carlow Live, they said: "Irish Water was aware of some supply interruptions in the Laois/Carlow area over the weekend.

"We received a small number of calls to our contact centre from customers who were experiencing disruption which was caused by a power outage on Friday evening.

"After brief review of these reports, we were able to determine that customers were supplied with water from Laois.

"Our colleagues in Laois County Council were deployed and restored supplies as quickly as possible under the circumstances.

"Irish Water apologise for the inconvenience caused."
