The Health and Safety Authority is investigating a work-related fatality in Carlow which occurred on Monday as a result of a fall.

The victim is a man in his 40s and the accident occurred in Rathornan between Leighlinbridge and Ballinabranna.

Reacting to the news, Cllr Denis Foley said: "Unfortunately the poor man died. He was in his 40s and married with a family. There were three ambulances called. It was serious.

"I'd like to sympathise with the family cause it's a tragedy for anyone. You hear it regularly but when it comes near your own door it hits home harder."
