Carlow Cllr. Paton announces his resignation from Labour to become an Independent member

Cllr. Will Paton

At the February Carlow County Council meeting held yesterday, Monday 12th February, Cllr. Will Paton announced he has resigned from the Labour Party and wishes to re-designate as an Independent. The Tullow Municipal District Councillor will run as an Independent candidate in the 2024 Local Elections.

Cllr. Paton Carlow Live: 'I made my decision to leave the Labour Party after much consideration and discussing it with family and supporters. Unfortunately, the Labour Party is practically non-existent on the ground in County Carlow and for a long time I feel that I have been operating as an “independent” in reality. Today’s announcement only confirms what has been true for a very long number of years.'

Cllr. Paton continued: 'I have met some wonderful people in the Labour Party, who work really hard for their constituents, and I want to wish them every success for the future. We part ways as friends, however, I will travel a new road at the 2024 Local Elections seeking to be re-elected to serve the Tullow Municipal District as an independent Councillor.'

'My priorities for the next five years include delivering the Outer Relief Road for Tullow to free up the Town Centre for passing traffic; continuing to deliver the largest ever social house building programme in the history of Tullow (with 89 houses already under construction); delivering affordable housing and grant schemes to those who don’t qualify for social housing; building a Primary Health Care Centre for East Carlow; fighting for an ASD unit for Tullow and building two playgrounds (one pre-teen and one teen) playgrounds in Tullow.'

Cllr. Will Paton can be contacted at 087 6787115.
