Carlow Councillors call for action to be made 'after horrendous accident' on the N80 road
At Monday's Carlow County Council meeting, Councillor John McDonald called for action to be made 'after the horrendous accident' on the N80 road which saw three fatalities.
Daryl Culbert, from Kiltegan, Katie Graham, from Ballickmoyler and Michael Kelly, from Nurney tragically lost their lives after a crash on the N80 road earlier this month.
Cllr. McDonald said: 'Maybe we need to bring TII down themselves because they're not acting quickly.'
'The N80 is not fit for purpose anymore' he continued.
Cllr Ken Murnane stated that 'unless you get a speed camera on the [N80], in and out of town, speeding will not drop'
Chief Executive of Carlow County Council, Coilín O'Reilly, said: 'The road is too narrow for speed vans.'
'We will have to look at fixed speed cameras.'
Fixed speed cameras are currently not in use on any other national road in Ireland since the introduction of speed camera vans across the country.
