An application for a major renovation at a Carlow nursing home has been submitted to the county council.
The application for the extension and alteration of Borris Lodge Nursing Home in Borris was submitted to Carlow County Council on March 1, and if granted, changes will include the extension, alteration and external works to the home, which is a protected structure.
Works will involve partial demolition of an extension to the lodge and a number of outbuildings, the construction of two two-storey extension blocks, providing an additional 40 single ensuite rooms, resulting in a total of 85 ensuite rooms, associated lounges and support services.
It also includes extension of the existing ground floor to provide a new dining area and an increased kitchen, new landscaping, a revised parking layout to provide 15 additional spaces (resulting in a total 36 spaces).
Twenty two bike spaces will also be created, including 10 for visitors and 12 secure, covered spaces.
A decision on the application is expected by the end of April 2024.
