Family Resource Centres in Carlow are set to receive an increase in core funding from January of 2026.

The news was confirmed by Minister Jennifer Murnane O'Connor and comes following a rise last year.

The minimum allocation of funding will increase to €180,000 and Tusla will provide the money directly to centres.

This will benefit 100 of the 126 Family Resource Centres around the country whose current funding is below the new €180,000 minimum level.

Across Carlow and Kilkenny the following Family Resource Centres will receive an uplift to reach the new minimum of €180,000:

  • Bagenlstown FRC will receive an extra €3,831.16
  • Forward Steps Resource Centre will receive an extra €2,546.93
  • Droichead FRC will receive an extra €17,689.61
  • Mill RFC will receive an extra €20,000.00
  • Newpark Close Community Development will receive an extra €5,701.07

Speaking about the announcement Minister Murnane O’Connor said:
"This increase in annual funding will strengthen community based family support and help centres continue their essential work. They provide vital assistance to families through supports such as counselling, education, advocacy and local group activities. I’ve witnessed first hand the remarkable work they do across Carlow and Kilkenny, and this increase for each centre will make a real difference to hundreds of families in our community," Minister Murnane O'Connor said.

Some of the services provided by Family Resource Centres include guiding families to the services they need, providing counselling and emotional support, offering access to education and training, running after school and youth programmes, helping community groups organise and grow and giving practical support such as access to technology or advice on community initiatives.
