Carlow County Council has been commended for its 'excellence' at the recent Local Government Awards.
Its 'Community Roots Programme' caused them to secure the win for 'Celebrating Excellence in Local Government' in the Municipal Districts initiative category on Thursday night.
Chambers Ireland, which hosts the awards ceremony, shared the news on social media.
"The 'Community Roots Programme' aims to empower young people across Carlow by teaching them leadership skills and giving them the opportunity to take part in "accredited training and meaningful community engagement," the post said.

"Launched during Climate Action Week in October 2024, the initiative is a collaboration between Carlow County Council, Carlow Regional Youth Services, Carlow Sports Partnership, and County Carlow Development Partnership. Highlights include hands-on climate workshops, accredited training in First Aid, Manual Handling, Volunteer Leadership, Child Protection Awareness and engagement with local groups and elected representatives."

Other local authorities that received awards on the night include Kilkenny County Council, Meath County Council, Waterford City and County Council, and Kildare County Council to name just a few.
