Carlow County Council, in partnership with Carlow Arts Festival, is thrilled to announce a new showcase for local talent: The Carlow Makers Market.
Set to take place on Saturday, May 30, this pop-up art and craft event will transform Lower Tullow Street into a vibrant hub of creativity, design and enterprise!
The market coincides with the festival’s busiest day, ensuring maximum visibility for the region's finest makers. The Carlow Makers Market aims to bridge the gap between artistic creation and commercial opportunity.

The market is seeking everything from intricate ceramics and textiles to contemporary jewellery, art, print and woodwork. It is envisaged that the event will highlight the incredible depth of skill within the local and regional creative sector.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the initiative, Ken Murnane, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, said: "This market is a fantastic addition to our festival line-up. By bringing our local and regional artists and designers onto Lower Tullow Street, we aren't just creating a shopping experience; we’re fostering a lively meeting place for conversation and community. It’s a testament to the talent we have right here in Carlow."
For local and regional artisans, the market offers an opportunity to showcase their brand to the festival audience. Carlow County Council is providing comprehensive support, including site management and equipment, to ensure the sole focus remains on the craft and art.
Linda Culleton, Economic Development Officer with the Council highlighted the strategic importance of this event: "Our goal at the Carlow County Council is to support the growth of creative enterprises. This partnership with Carlow Arts Festival allows us to provide a high-profile platform for makers to reach new customers and grow their businesses in a professional, curated environment."
Mikey Martins, Director of Carlow Arts Festival, added: "We are delighted to integrate the Carlow Makers Market into the heart of this year’s festival. Adding this layer of high-quality, local handmade craft and creativity to the program of events elevates the festival experience. We are absolutely committed to presenting local, national, and international creative experiences alongside each other and this new layer strengthens that ambition."
Applications are now open to craft makers, artists and designers working across all disciplines, including illustration, woodwork and textiles. High-quality, locally produced work is being sought and there is a participation fee of €50 which includes a gazebo, table, chair and site management.
The Carlow Makers Market will run from 11am to 4pm on the day.
