Many areas are forecast to be dry for much of Wednesday with just the odd spot of light rain or drizzle, and the best of the sunshine in the east and south.

However, Met Éireann predicts it will be windy near west and north coasts and becoming breezy everywhere this afternoon as southwesterly winds increase fresh to strong and gusty.

For Carlow and Leinster, there will be outbreaks of rain will move in from the northwest during the evening. It will turn colder with winds veering northwesterly and moderating as the rain clears.

Temperature highs of 8 to 10 degrees are forecast. Rain will push in from the northwest later today and will sweep southeastwards over the country this evening, becoming patchier as it does so.

It will reach 10C in Carlow from 1 to 3 pm, and could fall as low as 5C by 11 pm tonight, according to Met Éireann.

It is forecast to become dry, clear and cold tonight with any remaining rain in the south and southwest soon dying out. Winds will have become mostly light to moderate westerly with the passage of the rain, fresher near west and northwest coasts.

Cloud will build in the parts of the west and northwest overnight with an isolated shower possible there. Lows of -3 to +2 degrees, with frost developing and some icy stretches possible.

Tomorrow is forecast to be dry for most areas with spells of sunshine.

It will be cloudier though in parts of the north and west with the chance of an isolated shower. Highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees in mostly light to moderate west to southwest winds, fresher near northern coasts in the morning.
