A 17-year-old pedestrian has died after being struck by a car overnight. 

The incident happened in Co Mayo on the N17. The collision occurred at approximately 9:20pm.

The teenage boy was pronounced dead at the scene after he was struck by a car at Barnacarroll, about eight kilometres north of Claremorris. 

This is the second road tragedy which happened in Co Mayo in the past week, as a mother and her two daughters were pronounced dead on on Tuesday, March 26 following a collision.

Úna Bowden, aged in her 40s, was also driving on the N17 when their car collided with a truck. She and her two daughters, Saoirse (9) and Ciara (14) were pronounced dead shortly after. 

The road has been closed off and local diversions are in place. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), and were travelling on the N17 between Claremorris and Knock yesterday evening between 8:45pm and 9:30pm are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.
