Spanish authorities seek extradition of man in his 40s from Ireland for drug trafficking

A man in his 40s has been arrested by members of the Garda Extradition Unit (GEU). 

The 47-year-old man was arrested yesterday morning (Wednesday April 12) on the foot of a Schengen Information System (SIS II) Alert issued by Spanish authorities for offences related to drug trafficking and organised crime.

The SIS alert is an information exchange system used by authorities across Europe. 

The man was brought before the Four Courts yesterday afternoon and was subsequently remanded in custody until April 25.
