BREAKING: Extreme weather plays havoc with major Irish music festival with fans turned away

Umbrellas up! Rain and blustery showers expected tonight

Worsening weather conditions have forced the organisers of the Forever Young music festival to not allow day visitors to the event in Kildare, with the intention of running the show to a reduced audience.

"We are sorry to announce that due to extreme weather conditions, the safety team at Forever Young need to postpone ALL day visitors to the festival until tomorrow, weather permitting," the festival organisers posted on social media on Saturday.

"Anyone on site is at present unaffected and we intend to run the show to a reduced audience," the post added.

“We are heartbroken to bring you this news, but everyone's safety has to be our priority.

“Saturday ticket holders and weekend no camping ticket holders sadly cannot be admitted to the site.

“Anyone on site is at present unaffected and we intend to run the show to a reduced audience,” their post on Facebook outlined.

They urge people to watch out for updates on social media.

The music festival at Palmerstown House in Kildare features a host of 80s musical icons with Erasure's Andy Bell the feature act on Saturday evening.

One person posted that it was a swamp at the venue while another added that their family members were gutted not to be able to get entry to the gig.

The inclement weather also created difficulties for the organisers on Friday, which they worked to put right.

"There’s been a huge amount of issues created by the weather. We’re really sorry, we are putting it right," the festival organisers posted on social media on Friday. They also confirmed that the event was very nearly cancelled.
