An animal welfare group has offered a reward of €1,000 to find the person who set a dog on fire.
The North West Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Ballina has offered the cash reward for information leading to the identity of the person responsible for setting a dog on fire in Co Mayo earlier in July.
Chairperson of the North West Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Cathy O'Hora told RTÉ's Morning Ireland that she was "horrified" by the incident.
"I am extremely upset. It's just the most disgusting thing I have ever heard," Ms O'Hora said.
"Whoever is capable of that, God knows what they will end up doing next," she told the RTÉ programme.
"My concern is, have they done it before? Is it going to happen again?" she added.
The incident took place on 6 July and the dog died from its injuries.
Ms O'Hora said it was also concerning that no-one had reported the dog missing. "It must have come from somewhere," she said.
"We have put up a reward of €1,000, it's not something that we can afford but it's far more important that we find who is responsible for this," Ms O'Hora said.
