SCAM ALERT: Justice Department warns Irish public to ignore fake extradition letters

The Department of Justice is warning the general public of fake extradition letters currently circulating in communities.

The letters, which claim to be from the Department, have been confirmed as fraudulent.

If anyone is unsure of the authenticity of any correspondence received purporting to be from the Department, they are encouraged to contact 1800 221 227.

The warning comes ahead of Cyber Awareness Month in October, in which a number of campaigns supported by the Government are due to take place to highlight current trends in cyber fraud and phishing scams.

The Department is urging people to be "extremely cautious" and to avoid engaging with scams - including fake emails, calls or texts - by offering any personal information.
